Lighting That Supports Fertility, Nesting and Hatchable Eggs

A breeder house is all about balance. Females need to come into production at the right time, lay in the right place and stay calm through the cycle. Males need to stay active, fertile and well distributed without creating unnecessary stress in the flock. The right lighting supports that balance.

With good breeder lighting, birds follow a stable daily rhythm, move evenly through the house and settle calmly at the end of the day. That means fewer floor eggs, better nest use, calmer behaviour and a stronger focus on what really matters in a breeder operation: clean, fertile, hatchable eggs.

In breeder houses, lighting has two main jobs. First, it sets the reproductive rhythm of the flock through day length, intensity and timing. Second, it creates a calm and uniform house environment where birds can move, mate, feed and lay with less stress.

Ceiling Lights

General house lighting is the foundation of breeder lighting. It supports wake-up, feeding activity, mating behaviour, nest movement and settling down at the end of the day.

In breeders, that rhythm is especially important because light is directly connected to sexual maturity and reproductive performance.

Dome Basic 3000K

Dome Basic 3000K is the reliable base layer for breeder lighting. It gives strong, uniform white light across the house and is built for the conditions of a working barn.

The wide beam angle helps reduce sharp contrasts and dark spots, supporting a more even bird distribution. For the farmer, that means a dependable lighting system that keeps the house clear, manageable and consistent day after day.

Dome Basic is a strong fit when the goal is simple, robust and uniform breeder-house lighting without a dynamic spectrum. It gives the farmer a solid foundation for managing the flock’s daily rhythm, visibility and general activity in the house.

Dome Pro Dim-to-Red

Dome Pro Dim-to-Red adds an extra behavioural tool to the breeder house. During the day, it provides a warm white 3000K light enhanced with red. When dimmed, the light gradually moves toward red, creating a softer evening transition.

That gradual dim-to-red transition is useful in breeder houses because birds do not respond well to abrupt changes. A smoother dusk helps the flock settle down more naturally and supports a stable daily routine. This is especially important in breeder houses, where calm behaviour, good distribution and controlled activity all influence flock performance.

For the farmer, Dome Pro Dim-to-Red is more than a lamp. It is a management tool for evening settling, bird distribution and flock calmness. It can also be useful in flocks where feather pecking or visible wounds are a concern, because red light reduces visual contrast and can make damaged areas less noticeable to other birds.

It works best as part of the total breeder management approach: nutrition, stocking density, male-female ratio, nest design, ventilation and flock health all still matter. But lighting is one of the few tools the farmer can adjust every day without physically disturbing the birds.

NatureDynamics: Dynamic Light for the Whole Breeder Cycle

NatureDynamics is our high-end, connected lighting system. It is not a single lamp, but a platform: spectrally tunable luminaires, a wireless gateway, the Interact Agriculture app, zoning and research-based lighting recipes, all working together.
For breeder houses, NatureDynamics uses the NatureDynamics Dome for Layers luminaire, with a tunable spectrum of red, 3000K white and blue. Luminaires connect to a gateway over a wireless mesh network and can be grouped into zones, each running its own recipe.
That makes NatureDynamics valuable in breeder houses where the farmer wants more control than simple dimming. Light can be adjusted by time of day, flock age and management goal. During the production cycle, the system can support activity when birds need to move, calmer light when the flock needs to settle, and a more stable daily rhythm across the house.
For the farmer, this means one connected system that can support reproductive rhythm, nest use, evening settling and flock calmness throughout the breeder cycle. Instead of only switching the whole house up and down, NatureDynamics gives more control over how light is used as a management tool. NatureDynamics gives the farmer a practical way to manage those details with light.

NatureDynamics

NatureDynamics is the most advanced connected lighting system for poultry housing, it is spectrally-tunable, capable of mixing precise lighting spectra (red, green and blue for broilers or red, 3000K white, and blue for layers). The system is controlled by a wireless mesh network similar to Philips Hue ®. Lights are commissioned onto a gateway controller and can be assigned into one of up to 16 zones. Each zone can run a lighting recipe.
Recipes are fully customised for each species and each setup you require working alongside a farm computer, the lights can be adjusted to suit any condition, weather relaxing the bird with a dim blue light for raising equipment, vaccinations or catching for broilers.
creating brighter spots within the layer sheds near partition walls where there can be a tendancy for egg laying or piling.
Or controlling featcher pecking or controlling energy levels within a shed.
Wire the 230v system as normal, and groups can be created via Zigbee, creating a mesh network allowing each lamp to talk to another lamp.
