Lighting That Supports Egg Production, Nest Use and Flock Calmness

A layer house is all about routine. Hens need to wake up consistently, move confidently through the house, find the nests at the right moment and settle calmly at the end of the day. The right lighting supports that daily rhythm and helps keep the flock stable through the laying cycle.

With good layer lighting, birds stay evenly distributed, use the system as intended and lay where the farmer wants them to lay. That means fewer floor eggs, cleaner eggs, calmer behaviour and more uniform egg production over time.

In layer houses, lighting has two main jobs. System lighting helps guide birds in and around the aviary or colony system, especially around the nest and litter areas. Ceiling lighting sets the rhythm of the whole house, from wake-up to evening settling.

System Lighting

System lighting is one of the farmer’s most practical tools for guiding hens to the right place. Light under, inside and around the system influences where birds feel comfortable moving, resting, dust bathing and laying. When this is managed well, the house becomes easier to control and the daily floor-egg routine becomes less labour intensive.

Tulex Basic 3000K

Tulex Basic 3000K is a reliable white light for use under and in the system. It gives strong, even 3000K light where visibility and openness are needed.

Used under the system, it helps keep that area bright and less attractive as a laying place.
For the farmer, that means fewer floor eggs to collect by hand, cleaner eggs and less time spent walking the house looking for mislaid eggs.

Tulex Pro W3000 + Red

Tulex Pro W3000 + Red adds a red channel to the white base light, giving the farmer an extra management tool inside the system.

The red component can help draw hens up and into the system toward the nests at the right time of day.

That is especially valuable when birds are learning their routine or when nest use needs extra support. For the farmer, it means better nest occupancy, more eggs laid in the right place and a calmer flow of birds through the house during laying time.

Tulex Pro W3000 + Blue

Tulex Pro W3000 + Blue combines white and blue light for under-system areas where natural behaviour still matters.

Birds can use the litter area for movement and dust bathing, while the light helps prevent that space from becoming too attractive for laying.

For the farmer, this gives a better balance between welfare and control. The birds can still express natural behaviour in the scratch area, but the lighting helps reduce the risk of under-system laying and the labour that comes with it.

Ceiling Lighting

General house lighting is the foundation of layer lighting. It supports wake-up, activity, feeding, nest movement and evening settling. In layers, that daily rhythm is important because light is closely connected to production, behaviour and flock stability.

Dome Basic 3000K

Dome Basic 3000K is the reliable base layer for layer houses. It provides strong, uniform warm white light across the house and is built for the conditions of a working barn.
The wide beam angle helps reduce sharp contrasts and dark spots, supporting more even bird distribution. For the farmer, that means a dependable lighting system that keeps the house clear, manageable and consistent day after day.

Dome Basic is a strong fit when the goal is simple, robust and uniform white lighting without a dynamic spectrum. It gives the farmer a solid foundation for managing visibility, activity and the daily rhythm of the flock.

Dome Pro Dim-to-Red

Dome Pro Dim-to-Red adds an extra behavioural tool to the layer house. During the day, it provides a warm white 3000K light enhanced with red. When dimmed, the light gradually moves toward red, creating a softer evening transition.

That gradual dim-to-red transition is useful because layers do not respond well to abrupt changes. A smoother dusk helps the flock settle down more naturally and supports a stable daily routine.

For the farmer, Dome Pro Dim-to-Red is more than a lamp. It can help support evening settling, guide birds back into the system and add a practical tool in flocks where feather pecking or visible wounds are a concern. It works best as part of the total layer management approach, together with nutrition, stocking density, system layout and flock health.

NatureDynamics: Dynamic Light for the Whole Laying Cycle

NatureDynamics is our high-end, connected lighting system. It is not a single lamp, but a platform: spectrally tunable luminaires, a wireless gateway, the Interact Agriculture app, zoning and research-based lighting recipes, all working together.
For layer houses, NatureDynamics uses the NatureDynamics Dome for Layers luminaire, with a tunable spectrum of red, 3000K white and blue. Luminaires connect to a gateway over a wireless mesh network and can be grouped into zones, each running its own recipe.
That makes NatureDynamics valuable in layer houses where the farmer wants more control than simple dimming. Light can be adjusted by time of day, flock age and management goal. Different zones can support nest use, movement in the system and exploring behaviour in one connected system.
For the farmer, this means one system that can support production rhythm, nest occupancy, floor-egg control and flock calmness throughout the laying cycle. Instead of only switching the whole house up and down, NatureDynamics gives more control over how light is used as a management tool. NatureDynamics gives the farmer a practical way to manage those details with light.
